Revd Dr Liz Hoare

Liz Hoare is Tutor for spiritual formation at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford. She has taught spirituality and worship there for 13 years and is course director for the Oxford Masters in Applied Theology. Before going to Wycliffe Liz was in rural parish ministry in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

She has a wider range of academic interests including reading and writing as spiritual disciplines, desert spirituality, the relationship between the traditional religious life and new monasticism and most of all the work of spiritual direction. Liz has been involved in giving and receiving direction for many years and is a keen advocate of its relevance for the Christian Church today. In 2014 her book, Using the Bible in spiritual direction was published by SPCK. She has also written Twelve great spiritual writers (2019) which explores contemporary women writers on spiritual themes. She is a member of the Grove spirituality group and has published a number of booklets with them. She writes a weekly column for the Church of England newspaper.

Liz enjoys reading novels and talking about them, baking and bird-watching. She lives in a village outside Oxford with her husband a retired priest and sculptor and they have an 18 year-old son, a Labrador and some chickens.
