New Director of the Wesley Study Centre announced

We are delighted to announce that Revd Dr Liz Kent will be joining the team as Director of the Wesley Study Centre. She brings so many gifts: deep faith, missional passion; considerable experience in circuit ministry; academic credentials, and a long history with the study centre. We are really looking forward to welcoming here onto the Cranmer Team.

Liz was born and raised in Sheffield. She read Law at Liverpool University, and undertook a Master’s degree in Charity law. After working for the Methodist Church in HE chaplaincy she trained for ordained ministry at the Wesley Study Centre, Durham.

Liz’s doctoral research at Durham University exploring the Church and Eating Disorders was completed alongside local Circuit ministry in Whickham, Blaydon and Crawcrook. Liz is currently a minister in Chester Le Street and will combine this with her new responsibilities as Director of the WSC. She comments: ‘I am excited to be appointed to this role and working with the vibrant and gifted staff at St John’s. I am passionate about the ways in which theology can inspire and equip the Church to live out it’s calling and look forward working with others in developing opportunities for this to happen.’

The Principal of St John’s, Revd Professor David Wilkinson, comments:

‘The Wesley Study Centre continues to be a key centre of Methodist scholarship not only in this country but throughout the world. Alongside the growth in Catholic and Anglican studies within the University and the large numbers of Anglican and Free Church students training at Cranmer Hall, it has the kind of potential that needs a scholar and practitioner such as Liz Kent.  She is that rare person who combines real theological depth with successful Circuit ministry’.
