‘By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established’ Proverbs 24:3
Are you interested in growing in confidence in thinking about theology?
Are you exploring leadership in your local church or involved in starting new worshipping communities?
Would you like to learn new skills to equip you to think theologically about your church context?
If yes, then Foundations is for you!
Foundations is a 1-year course which will offer an introduction to theology for anyone in a leadership role in their local church, or exploring the potential of leadership in their local context. The course will equip you to think theologically in how to engage with the Bible, Christian doctrine, and how to reflect theologically on what you’re are doing in context. Foundations will also explore questions around mission, starting and leading new church communities, worship, and discipleship.
The sessions will run on Wednesday evenings at St John’s College (from 7th October-9th Dec 2025 and from 13th Jan-17th March 2026)
Foundations is for anyone exploring leadership in a local church or new worshipping community in any church tradition. The course will provide the tools to start thinking theologically about the work God is doing in your context. No prior experience of formal study is required and anyone is welcome to participate.
For those exploring leadership roles in Church of England churches in Durham Diocese, places are pre-funded by a grant from the national church. Please speak to your vicar before applying and then fill in the application form below. For those applying from other church traditions, there is a cost of £400 for the year.
To express your interest in Foundations, please fill in this short form.
