Dr Cynthia Bennett Brown

Cindy joined the Cranmer team in 2024 as Director of the MA in Theology and Ministry. She has studied and worked in the United States, Canada, France and the UK in a range of roles including chaplain, parish assistant, lecturer and youth worker. As a theologian, she has taught at Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast Bible College, Trinity College Dublin, The Church of Ireland Theological Institute and Union Theological College Belfast and given conference papers and public lectures for The C. S. Lewis Institute, Rutherford House Scotland, The Pontifical College Maynooth and the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Cindy’s teaching and research are driven by the deep conviction that discipleship to Jesus Christ includes learning to love God with our minds as much as our heart, soul and strength, and that theological education has a pivotal role to play in this, both in the church and in the academy. Her PhD is in systematic theology, but she also teaches and supervises subjects in historical and practical theology – because good theology necessarily impacts real life! She has written about the nature of and limits to theological thinking in Believing Thinking, Bounded Theology and recently completed a book chapter on the history of pastoral care in the Christian tradition. She is a member of the Society for the Study of Theology UK and the British and Irish Association for Practical Theology and has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2013.

Besides theology, Cindy loves her husband, sheep, cake and very early mornings.
