Revd Dr Tim Carter

Before joining the team at Cranmer Hall, Tim Carter worked as a Baptist Minister in Horsham, and before that in Maidstone, Leamington Spa and Eastbourne. He studied for his BA at London Bible College, where he met his wife Sue, who has been with him heart and soul in each of the churches where Tim has served as pastor-teacher. After he gained his DPhil in New Testament at Oxford, Tim was invited to become an Associate Research Fellow at London Bible College, and then as Research Fellow when the college became the London School of Theology. His doctoral thesis was published by CUP as Paul and the Power of Sin, and his subsequent book was The Forgiveness of Sins (James Clarke). He has also published a number of articles, and as time allows, he is thinking about the historicity of the burial of Jesus, and about Jesus as the Son of David in Matthew’s Gospel. He is joint chair of the Synoptic Seminar of the British New Testament Society.

As one of LST’s visiting lecturers and distance learning tutors, Tim taught modules on Greek, Scripture, Exegesis and Hermeneutics, and the Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts. His passion as a teacher is to equip others to understand, interpret and communicate the Scriptures in life-changing ways, and he is delighted and honoured to lecturing in Biblical Studies and Preaching at Cranmer Hall.
