Structure and Modules

The Certificate level modules are all introductory modules which serve to lay a foundation for the more detailed and demanding modules at Diploma and BA level.

The four core modules are:

  • Introduction to the Bible (20 credits) with one term each on the Old Testament and the New Testament. As the Word of God, our desire is to approach the Bible in a way that is both intellectually rigorous and passionately faithful. The aim of this module is that it will help equip and enthuse you to read the Bible more, in an ever more informed way and that you will go on to do this with others.
  • Introduction to Christian Doctrine and History (20 credits) whose purpose is to introduce you to the major periods of Christian history as well as key Christian doctrines about God, the Trinity, Jesus Christ and Salvation.
  • Mission and Evangelism (20 credits) which is designed to provide you with theological insights and practical tools to help you lead, engage in, and envision the Church for mission and evangelism.
  • Introducing Theological Reflection (10 credits) aims to help you integrate theology with your experience of life and your practical experience of ministry, whatever form that may take. It will equip you for future ministry by developing habits of relating theological resources and learning to what you will do in ministry.

As well as the four core modules, you will do a variety of other modules, worth up to 50 credits in total. These modules may include Biblical Greek and Free Church Denominational History and Ministry, as well as introductions to Preaching, Pastoral Care, Leadership, Christian Spirituality and Discipleship and Children and Youth Ministry.
