Our College
We are blessed by our site in the centre of the city of Durham, just a 15-minute walk from the train and bus stations and sharing a corner of the UNESCO World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral and Castle.
Cranmer Hall is part of St John’s College, which is home to undergraduate and postgraduate students of Durham University of all faiths and studying a full range of subjects.
Our Chapel
The heartbeat of College life is daily prayer, and the majority of our services take place in the amazing twelfth-century Church of St Mary-the-Less on the Bailey, which now serves as the Chapel of St John’s College.

Our Libraries
We benefit from the incredible William Leech Library with close to 30,000 books and over 80 study desks. The Library occupies most of our Learning Resource Centre, a fresh, modern, light building. Its resources specialize in theology and ministry. Cranmer students also have access to the Sharp Library in Durham Cathedral, to the University’s main Bill Bryson Library, and to a vast and growing range of digital articles, books, and resources through Durham University.

Our Teaching Spaces
Most of our teaching takes place in two purpose-built and well-equipped teaching spaces in the Learning Resource Centre. We also have use of a range of other spaces, including Seminar Rooms spread through the College estate, and the newly refurbished Binks Hall which is a superb lecture and worship space.

Other Spaces
Students have the benefit of leisure space in the Cranmer Common Room and dedicated study desks in the Wallis Room. Cranmer Hall staff are based in Etchells House, next to the Learning Resource Centre. All Cranmer students are full members of St John’s College and have access to the College gym and bar and can book College rooms for student events.
