Entry Requirements

The entry requirement is a C at A level or an equivalent level qualification. If you do not have this level of qualification, we would encourage you to have a conversation with us about admission to the programme.

Structure and Modules

Like all other students taking the Certificate in Theology, Ministry and Mission, students on the Children and Youth pathway will take four core modules. The four core modules are Introduction to the Bible (20 credits), Introduction to Christian Doctrine and History (20 credits), Mission and Evangelism (20 credits) and Introducing Theological Reflection (10 credits). These four modules as well as another module relating to mission and ministry will provide a broad theological grounding for the modules which focus on children and youth work. A summary of these four modules can be found in the information tab for the Certificate.

As well as the four core modules, you will do three modules which consider different approaches to working with children and young people.

  • Introduction to Growing Faith (10 credits) explores how we might grow faith in children and teenagers, how this might happen in schools, churches and households, and how these contexts might overlap.
  • Introduction to Theology and Human Development in Childhood and Adolescence (20 credits) introduces students to understandings of human identity and development in childhood and/or adolescence and how these can be understood theologically.
  • Values, Policy and Practice in Children’s Work or Youth Work (10 credits) will offer a solid introduction to the values, ethics, and professional practices that shape either children and family work, or Youth Work whilst providing an opportunity to reflect on how Christian faith and personal values influence these policies and practices.
