Explore Day – Acts: The Gospel, the Spirit and the Future

 Friday 28 April, 9.30 to 3 pm

Leech Hall, St Johns College

Led by Mark Bonnington and David Goodhew

The book of Acts is the first ‘fresh expression’, the blueprint for doing church. The day will explore Acts at street level, using the history and archaeology of the societies of the ancient world. But ancient daily life leads into deeply theological questions about the nature of the gospel, sacramentality and the Holy Spirit. The day will then link understanding the early church to doing church in the 21st century.

Mark Bonnington is Fellow in New Testament of St Johns College and Senior Pastor of Kings Church, Durham. He has written widely on Paul and charismatic spirituality, including Patterns in Charismatic Spirituality (Grove 2007). David Goodhew is Director of Ministerial Practice at Cranmer Hall, having previously been vicar of two parishes in York. He edited Towards a Theology of Church Growth (Ashgate 2015) and Growth and Decline in the Anglican Communion (Routledge 2017).
