Our Programmes

Cranmer Hall offers a varied programme of excellent academic awards in Theology, Ministry and Mission from Durham University.

We believe that God calls us to worship him with the whole of our being, including our minds. Studying theology can draw us deeper into communion with God. We are committed to excellent teaching in the service of God, teaching which serves your needs and honours all the experience and previous study you bring with you. We have a full range of academic programmes from entry-level higher education (Foundation Certificate) through to doctorate, accessible through a range of modes of study, part-time, full-time, in Durham or at a distance.

Different study options

Undergraduate Study

Cranmer Hall offers four programmes at BA level:

  • Foundation Award in Theology, Ministry and Mission (60 credits)
  • Certificate in Theology, Ministry and Mission (120 credits)
  • Diploma in Theology, Ministry and Mission (240 credits)
  • BA in Theology, Ministry and Mission (360 credits)

The BA programmes are validated through Common Awards, the national validation programme for theological and ministerial education, which is based at Durham University. These programmes provide integrated vocational training at an introductory or undergraduate level for ordained and lay ministry.

Postgraduate Study

Cranmer Hall offers four programmes at Postgraduate level:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Theology and Ministry (60 credits)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Theology and Ministry (120 credits)
  • MA in Theology and Ministry  (180 credits)
  • Doctor of Theology and Ministry

The MA programmes are validated by Durham University. The programmes aim to build on prior theological understanding and create a framework within which theology can inform mission and ministerial practice and practice can inform theology.
